Lübeck

I still haven't seen much of the city yet, the weather is just too bad for sightseeing! But what I've seen is really nice! The only really bad thing is, there aren't any bars or clubs that play my kind of music!!! That sucks! Will have to go to Hamburg to party!
This weekend my aunt and uncle were here to visit. So the week before I have been really busy getting all the boxes out of the way and trying to make the place look nice.
I had found a really good sushi and thai place close to my flat when my dad was here a few weeks ago and on friday night we picked up some food there. I already love that restaurant! The sushi is almost as good as the one I had in Vanuatu!
On Saturday we went into the city to do some x-mas shopping and to see the famous christmas market. Tons of tourist pour into the city every day at the moment to see that christmas market, mostly people from scandivia. On the way there is a big parking lot that is full with busses from Denmark and Sweden. It was so busy there that we didn't stay long. In the evening we went to the Lübeck theatre to see Tosca, an italian opera. My first time to see a classical opera and I actually liked it.
Last weekend I went out for breakfast with a few people I met online who are also new in Lübeck. Was nice to go out again after so many weeks and weekends of unpacking boxes.
Wednesday night I have been out to have Glühwein, a german winter specialty, hot spiced red wine, at the christmas market with a couple of girls and one guy from work. They all started in internal medicine this summer and because there are no young people in Radiology they "adopted" me. One of them, Julia, lives only a 5 minute walk from here, so as soon as the weather is better we are going to ride our bikes to work together.
It's so nice to finally have some friends here!
Next weekend my parent are coming to visit and the weekend after that I'm going home for christmas. I'm already stressed just thinking about how many people I will have to and want to see. And also my brother and his girlfriend are getting married right after christmas! At least that means I don't have to work between x-mas and NYE. Ohhh, and I don't know what to wear! It's going to be sooo cold!

The first 2 weeks

...are over. Monday I will move into my new appartment, went to IKEA today to buy some stuff I will need. Like a fold-out-couch ;-) so that I can welcome couchsurfers at my place.
Work is a bit chaotic, they still need at least one more specialized radiologist to keep up with all the work. So nobody can show me around or even teach me something, I only do what I feel comfortable with, which isn't much. But that will hopefully get better soon. At least all my colleagues are really nice.
The bit I like least is getting up early, big surprise! But I hope that I will get used to that soon. It's a bit weird though to go to work in the dark and come home in the dark, now that we are back in "winter-time" (not daylight saving anymore) it is pitchblack at 5.30 pm.

It's official!!!

I've got a job!!!
From next monday I will be working in the Radiology department in Luebeck. Bit soon for finding an appartment and getting organized, but it means I will get paid soon ;-)
So if anyone travelling Northern Germany wants to stop by, let me know.
Luebeck has an old city center with lots of old timbered houses. And I think the christmas market is quite famous, I went there once and it was really pretty. Also it's close to the Baltic Sea with some nice beaches.
Tomorrow I have to go to the dentist again, they will open my bone to finally get rid of that infection. Aaahhhh!!! Am a bit scared!

I've had my first job interview yesterday. Not sure how it went, they'll decide on Monday who will get the job. Tomorrow I will spend the day in their department to see if I really want the job and to boost my chances to actually get it!
Earlier today I got a phonecall from another hospital I applied for, this one in Bremerhaven on the North Sea, and they invited me for an interview on Tuesday. So if I don't get the job in Lubeck I have another chance. The hospital there is a bit better, they cover everything you need for the specialization, but the city is not as nice and it's not as close to Hamburg as I'd like to be!

Time for an update

It's been quite a while I know, but I've been busy, applying for jobs, visiting friends and seeing my dentist a few times too many for my taste. I have a really annoying root infection, that doesn't wanna go away, even with huge loads of antibiotics. So I'll probably need surgery. Really looking forward to that!
Jobwise it's looking pretty bad, at least in Hamburg. I applied at every hospital and no one has a vacancy for radiologists :-( But next week I'll have an interview at a big hospital in Luebeck, which is only about 60km from Hamburg and really close to the beaches. So wish me luck!!!
The weather over here is bad!!! Summer never came and now it's getting cold, the leaves are turning yellow and red, and it's raining all the time. I wish we could send some of it to Australia.
I will try to post here more often to keep you all updated with my life and I hope one or the other will leave me a comment to let me know someone is actually reading!
